Welcome TY 2019/20

Welcome back to all of you and welcome to all in TY 2019/20!

This newsletter is the first of many which outlines information regarding activities for the following weeks/months ahead.

This TY newsletter will be updated by each Friday eve throughout the year. Please be sure to keep up to date with sign up sheets and deadlines as I will not be able to guarantee that each TY will be able to participate if they are late signing up.

Please see below for some important information:

There will be a short TY Assembly, 28th August, 8:45am, Lwr Study. TYs will receive Module 1 Timetables. TYs will also be in different base class groups for the year, details of which will be passed on at the Assembly. Full uniform is expected.

You'll find al details for the TY 2019/20 Calendar, Activities Week Dates (including Work Placements) and Group Lists in THIS LINK HERE

Please note that I will be responding to any emails sent over the holidays when we return to school.

Regarding emails...a polite request:)

I do endeavour to respond to all emails as quickly as possible, however I am in class for most of the day, so please excuse me if I do not respond within the day. I always aim to return all emails within 3-5 days.

If you do have a question that concerns your son and it is suitable for your son to ask it, please let him do so. It really is important that your son takes responsibility for this year as his own. It is also a valuable opportunity for me to speak with your son face to face and help him work out any issues in person.

Mr Aidan O'Donnell will be acting TY Year head for some of the first term.

TY Overview & Registration for Activities

A second TY assembly will take place in the Lwr Study at 1:35 - 3:3:35pm, Tuesday 3rd September.

We will be going through an overview of the year to come. It's a good opportunity for TYs to ask any questions that they might have on the year.

Some of the topics covered are:

  1. Election of TY Class Reps

  2. Activities Weeks (WP Requirements)

  3. Assessments

  4. Gaisce Participation (& option to opt out)

  5. TY Trips

TY Hike - Gaisce Adventure Journey

The TY Gaisce Adventure Activity is a 2 day, 31KM hike along the Wicklow Way. This spectacular hike will begin at Crone Woods, pass near Powerscourt, and finish at Glendalough (with an overnight camp at the picturesque Lough Dan Scout Centre). There will be a meal and activities for the evening (including swimming in the lake ... if you're brave enough!)

We were to be leaving at 8:45am, Tuesday 24th September and arriving back at the school on Wednesday at approximately 1:00pm.

24th & 25th SEPTEMBER

As part of the Gaisce Award, participants are required to plan this themselves, as well as source their own equipment (with a little help of course). A planning meeting will take place with each class

For now though, TYs should try to find a small group of 3 - 6 from their class that they can hike and pitch camp with.

Info Regarding TY Trips

Information will be posted asap regarding TY trips that will be occurring throughout the year. Please make sure that you check your email every Friday for details.

TY Tuesdays

There will be a TY specific activity every Tuesday afternoon, 1:35 - 3: 35pm, throughout the year. Activities include speakers, out of school trips and activities, sports competitions etc.

All incoming TYs have already been contacted via their school email to get suggestions as to what they would like to participate in throughout the year.

You can also make any suggestions as the sorts activities that would be valuable for TYs HERE
