1. What is TY?
The Transition Year (TY) is a one-year programme that forms the first year of a three-year senior cycle. It is designed to act as a bridge between the Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate programmes.
The key aim of TY is to offer a space to learn, mature and develop the absence of examination pressure. It provides opportunities to learn new knowledge and develop new skills, attitudes and values were students take the responsibility for their own learning.
The TY Programme is a balance between continuing essential core subjects, sampling leaving cert subjects and a variety of course modules and activities to broaden a student's horizon and promote their maturity.
OUR AIMS FOR TY
Education for maturity with the emphasis on personal development including social awareness and increased social competence.
The promotion of general, technical and academic skills with an emphasis on interdisciplinary and self-directed learning.
Education through experience of adult and working life as a basis for personal development and maturity.
