Architects in Schools (Irish Architecture Foundation)

3 hour Workshop (on a Thursday TBC)

Are you interested in first-hand experience of the design process under the guidance of architects?

Through Architects in Schools, students experience architecture through hands-on design workshops and stimulus activities. The initiative is complementary to many Senior Cycle subjects, including Art, Maths, Sciences, Design and Communication Graphics, Construction Studies, Home Economics, English, History and Geography.

The project-based learning approach of the initiative supports individual research and classroom based activities, providing diverse learning opportunities and cross curricular links. The initiative also provides specific enhancement of critical thinking, design thinking and innovation.

You'll be working closely with an architect to gain an insight into working life and get an enhanced awareness of career choices.

The themes for 2021/22 are Sustainability / Home / Community

There will be another opportunity to get involved in a longer class project too. I'll confirm details asap.

Time Requirements

With exception to the Adventure Journey, each challenge area requires a minimum participation of 1 hour per week for 13 weeks. The Adventure Journey takes place over a minimum of 2 days and 1 night.

Additional Weeks

An additional 13 weeks must be completed in one challenge area of your choice. This could be an activity you really enjoyed, or an activity in which you feel you still have room for improvement. As a result, it will take at least 26 weeks to complete your Bronze Award, however everyone is free to complete the award at their own pace.
