Junior Cert Exam Results Congratulations

A huge congratulations to everyone on receiving your Junior Certificate results! We are incredibly proud of your hard work and achievements.

Please remember, if you or your parents haven't accessed your results yet, Mr. Knaggs has the digital code required for the online portal.

Anyone wishing to appeal their results should bring a note specifying the subject they want rechecked, along with a cheque for €32 (per subject) made payable to 'St Michael's College,' to the Admin Office. The school will apply for a recheck on behalf of each student.

If there are any issues, feel free to reach out for assistance.

Well done again, and keep up the great work!

Module 2

Module 2 will go live today at 3 PM and printouts of the new timetables will be available on Monday.

Important: Ensure that all Module 1 assignments have been submitted. You can confirm this by seeing the 'handed in' note in your Google Classroom.

For Parents: If you'd like to manage and update your email summaries for Google Classroom, please visit this guide for detailed instructions. Please note that grades will not appear in the email summaries; you'll need to log in via your son's device or his Google account to fully view all activity and results.

Reminder Regarding TY Trips and Activities: Class participation and engagement may be considered in the selection process for TY trips and activities, so please make sure you're actively contributing!

Footee Football Golf, 18th October

As a small celebration of the fantastic Junior Cert exam results we'll be leaving the school at 10am this Friday and departing Footee 1:15pm approx. You are free to leave after this.

It is important you attend class as normal. You will not need to wear your uniform. Please wear gear suitable for outdoors and, as it can get quite slippy on the course, bring a pair of boots.

Nightmare Realm

7pm, 16th October

We will be meeting outside the Nightmare Realm this Wednesday at 6:40pm. I will meet those attending at the entrance to the car par next to the Nightmare Realm, Dublin City Council Wholesale Fruit Vegetable And Flower Market, Mary’s Ln, Dublin 1

8PXH+6G

It takes approx 1 hour 30 minutes to complete all mazes.

If for any reason, you are unable to attend please let me know asap and do your best to arrange someone to take your place

This is a non uniform activity.

Activities Week

A big well done to everyone for your fantastic participation in Activities Week 1! Your enthusiasm and involvement made it a great success.

Looking ahead, Activities Week 2 will take place from 11th to 15th November. Please note that students in 4.4 and 4.6 are scheduled for their Work Placements during this time.

Keep up the great work, and we look forward to another week of activities next month.

TY Trips Offers

Thank you to everyone for applying for the school trips. I have a record of the trip preferences, and I’d like to explain how the selection process will work (based on the criteria: attendance/punctuality, TY engagement and positive behaviour - and in certain circumstances, discussions with students).

How We’ll Offer Places:

Over the next weeks we will be offering places in a phased approach based on each trip's capacity and how many students have applied.

  • Tanzania – Offers will be made for this trip first.

  • Boston – Once Tanzania places are filled, we’ll make offers for Boston.

  • Austria – After Boston, we’ll move on to Austria.

  • Camino – Next, we’ll offer places for Camino.

  • Sailing – Finally, places for Sailing will be offered.

What Does This Mean for You?

  • If you get offered a place on your first-choice trip, that’s the trip you will go on.

  • If you don’t get a place on your first choice, you’ll be considered for your next preference, and so on.

  • The system works like this so that everyone has the best chance to go on a trip they really want, based on the spaces available.

Accepting Offers:

  • Once you receive an offer for a trip, you’ll need to let us know if you want to accept it.

  • If you accept the offer, you won’t be considered for any other trips lower down on your list of preferences.

  • If a place opens up for a trip you ranked higher, you might still get offered a spot later (but this is an unlikely situation).

For Those Without a Place…yet:

If you don’t secure a place on any of the trips, don’t worry. I’ll be looking into arranging another trip for those that did not receive an offer, but it will take a few weeks to confirm the details.

Conditional Offers:

Please note that all trip offers are conditional. In the event of serious issues regarding behaviour, unexcused absences, or punctuality, you may be withdrawn from a trip without a refund. It is essential to maintain good conduct and attendance, as we want to ensure that the trips are enjoyable and run smoothly for everyone involved.

A Final Note on the Process:

The way we are offering places for these trips is similar to how the CAO system works when applying for college courses. You’ll be offered a place on the highest preference trip that has space available based on your ranking. If you don’t get your top choice, you’ll be considered for the next one on your list, and so on. This ensures everyone gets the best possible chance at one of their preferred trips, just like with college offers.

Activities Week

Positive Mental Health Week

The Elephant in the Room Initiative

As part of Positive Mental Health Week, taking place from January 13-17 2025, we are excited to introduce a new initiative called "The Elephant in the Room."

This initiative is the brainchild of Brent Pope and was brought to our attention by a past pupil as a way to promote positive mental health at St. Michael’s College.

To paraphrase Brent Pope, the elephant will serve as a symbol for our school community, reminding us that it’s okay to talk about mental health just as openly as we discuss physical health, without fear of judgment or discrimination. This openness is vital to everyone’s well-being.

In the coming weeks, each year group will have the chance to design a different part of the elephant, making it a symbol of inclusivity and teamwork. Here's how the design will be divided:

  • 1st Year: Face

  • 2nd Year: Front two legs

  • 3rd Year: Ears

  • TYs: Trunk and tail

  • 5th Year: Back two legs

  • 6th Year: Body

The TY trunk and tail template is in my office and can be returned to the TYC or Year Head Offices by 16th October
