TY Global Citizenship Group
Our TY Global Citizenship group met on Wednesday with their Blackrock counterparts in Blackrock College to discuss Spiritan ethos and how to promote education around the work of the Spiritan charity, Spirasi. Spirasi, standing for the Spiritan Asylum Services Initiative, is the national centre for the rehabilitation of torture victims in Ireland. Their main office is located on the North Circular Road in Dublin. It was established in 1999 as the Spiritan response to the rapidly evolving migration and asylum situation in Ireland. In its twenty-plus years, Spirasi has helped over 5,000 migrants and has offered English classes to more than 2,000 refugees. Spirasi aims to care for these victims with integrity, compassion, respect, and solidarity.
Spirasi is a crucial organisation that provides critical aid to many thousands of people, by way of therapeutic services, English-language classes, and the compilation of medico-legal reports. Spirasi’s employees do fantastic and vital work with those most vulnerable in society, helping them to assimilate to Irish culture, make friends, have an education, and recover from traumatic experiences that they have endured at the hands of their persecutors. In this way, Spirasi achieves its aim of caring for those who need it most. The Noel Turley Cup that will be held on November 13 will be in aid of Spirasi.
