To bring:

Tent (1 or 2 man per student - NO sharing of tent allowed)

☐ Rucksack (with bin liner or rain cover)

☐ Sleeping bag - (min. 3 season recommended & in bin liner to keep it dry)

☐ Sleeping mat

☐ Rain gear – jacket and over trousers

One pair of hiking boots/shoes is enough. Bringing a second pair of runners just takes up space and are awkward to pack.

☐ Torch (& check batteries)

☐ Eating utensils - Tupperware container (1000ml approx), bottle, knife, fork, spoon

☐ Complete change of underwear and hiking socks

☐ Long sleeve and short sleeve shirt

☐ Light weight fleece or pullover

☐ Trousers/tracksuit bottoms – not jeans

☐ Hat & Gloves

☐ Insect repellent

☐ Sun cream/screen

☐ Blister plasters

Food (day 1: lunch & snacks // day 2: lunch & breakfast) & Water (2 litres per day minimum)

☐Toiletries (including toilet tissue)

While Walking – (The second day will be tougher).

  • Walking shoes are best. Runners cause blisters more easily when wet.

  • Layer down when walking. Layer up when stopped. Anyone that wears layers when walking will be guaranteed to have to stop and layer down. A t-shirt is often enough.

  • Keep your rain jacket / rain mac at top of bag so it’s handy to get.

  • Bring at least 2 litres of water.

  • Bring some snacks for the walk.

  • Don’t litter. If you see litter while walking, pick it up. You’ll feel great. If you see someone litter, call them out!

Your bag:

  • Try to fit everything into/onto your pack. Sleeping bags / tents loosely clipped onto the side will sway from side to side.

  • Use zip lock bags for your spare clothes, especially for a spare t-shirt, socks & jocks.

  • Put your sleeping bag in a black bag. Don’t let it get wet. It will just get heavier and will be useless.

  • Don’t over pack. Remember, you have to carry what you bring. Some people pack way too many clothes.

  • Make sure that your pack fits properly when walking to avoid chaffing. Make sure to pull on the straps that are over your shoulder. Getting the pack in close to your shoulders makes it much easier to carry.

  • Bring a plastic bag for rubbish. There are bins at the camp that you can use.

  • If you have a head torch, make sure it can’t get wet in your bag. Spare batteries might be handy.

Arrival at camp:

  • Set up your tent first in your assigned area while you have light.

  • Change into dry / clean clothes afterwards.

  • Eat last.

Leaving Camp:

  • Pack your bag and tent away first. Do this as neatly so that it all fits back in your bag again.

  • Make sure to pick up all litter. We'll be forming a line and we'll walk across the field to leave it as we found it.

  • Breakfast last
