Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s),
Just a note to let you know that while there are a lot of students absent on language exchanges and work experiences, school continues. In light of the reduced numbers in classes Mr Copeland has worked on a new in school timetable for these final weeks which we will be sharing with the students on Monday morning at Assembly first period. It will mean that we are combining a few classes together and changing the programme a little so that the classes are productive. It may be the case that your son is telling you there is nothing happening in school and many missing so whilst there are many missing one look at this weeks newsletter from Mr Copeland will show just how much is happening and by reorganising the classes next week we are proactively addressing the low numbers. I wish to reassure you that the Assessment week this term will not have any major impact on the streaming process for classes for next year, as a result of the low numbers in class this term.
Activity week which begins on Monday 22nd May will be the last week of school for the Transition Year students. Please note that Friday 26th May 2023 is the final day now. There will be a number of day trips on Tuesday’s between now and the end of term and each will be announced in the weekly newsletter such as this coming Tuesday trip to Airsoft in Roundwood. This trip requires a waiver to be signed and if this is not returned the case will be that your son cannot participate and instead an alternative will be arranged on the day based on numbers. However we hope all waivers will be returned and it is good for the students to have this responsibility.
Once again many thanks for all your cooperation in what has been a great year. I personally feel the programme offered to our Transition Years is fantastic and includes so many great learning experiences be they from an activity or social awareness points of view. I have no doubt that the experiences will serve your sons well as they progress to Senior Cycle.
Please contact me if you have any queries. Please also continue to upload absences, including the proposed return date, on the VS Ware app. There are still a few teething issues but all will work out so if you have filled in the absence and a text still comes from the school this could be caused by an inadvertent mark being made by a member of staff that affects the system. Apologies in advance.
Kind regards
Liam Hogan
