Happy St Michael's Day.

Assessment Week

All subjects will be assessing TYs this week coming (Tuesday to Friday). Please be clear as to what is expected of you in terms of assessment from each subject teacher you have, the deadlines and be sure to bring your pens, copybooks etc to each and every class...and good luck in the week ahead.

Core subject departments may will be using results from each module assessment to help guide them in terms of placing students into streams. It is important that you contact the subject teacher directly to make alternative arrangements if, for any reason, you are unable to sit/complete an assessment.

Thursday Activities

Thanks to all for your patience and understanding regarding the constantly shifting arrangements. I'm happy to report that TY STMC now has 43 certified First Aiders (we'll have 114 by Oct 22nd).

Activities Week 1: Oct 5 -9th

Groups 1 & 4

Work Placement Alternative//

Coaching and Wellness Diploma

This has been the most challenging year in terms of finding Work Placements.

Many of you in Groups 1 & 4 have been lucky enough to secure a placements on your own or through the school community.

Today, I have been in touch with all parents of TYs who, as of yet, have not confirmed a placement with me to offer them an alternative to their work placement.

I thought it important to mention that we can facilitate an alternative in St Michael's College during the above dates. This can also be the arrangement if you lose your placement due to Covid 19 restrictions getting tighter.

We can offer a space in an Activities Week Coaching & Wellness Activity for the 5 days but there is a nominal cost of €80 to take part. This is only available to Activities Weeks Groups 1 & 4.

Parents: please be sure to email me if you would like to avail of a place. Places are limited and will be offered on a first come first served basis.

Activities Week Group 2

Law Week Alternative//

Bike Skills & Mechanics Workshop

Group 2 will be working in the RDS for this week with Bike Hub to go through the rudiments of bike mechanics & will be out and about to test their bike skills. This week is designed to make it as practical and safe to cycle around Dublin during the restrictions to public transport.

Outline of Course to follow shortly.

Activities Week Group 3

Cookery Week Alternative//

Workshops with Stephen James Smith

I'm disappointed to say that we have had to cancel the first cookery week scheduled for Oct 5-9th in the STMC Pavilion.

We will be able to offer a STMC Online Cookery Course that TYs took in April along with a week long deep dive into the world of performance, writing and hip hop.

Stephen Smith is one of Ireland's most celebrated spoken word poets. His work has been viewed by millions and he has performed with the leading artists like Eddie Vedder and Glen Hansard. Recently his poetry was used as the theme for the Dublin St Patrick's Parade. Not to mention that he is a very nice person & excellent facilitator.

He has put together an incredibly challenging & inspirational week for Group 3. You will be working with Stephen and a host of leading Irish hip hop artists & writers throughout the week.

Outline of Course to follow shortly.

Activities Week Group 5

Boxing & Self Defence
