Upcoming TY Work Experience Week

(4th - 8th Oct)

Parents:

As you know, this year will have its challenges in terms of TYs finding Work Placements.

I'd like to ask if any families are connected to businesses that would be happy to accommodate boys who were unable to secure placements as a result of, for example, the number of large offices that are now working remotely.

I am building up a file of businesses who would be happy to take on TYs for a week long job experience during the Activities Weeks. If you would like to add your business to the list you can simply fill in the form HERE. I will follow up with a short phone call to talk through a few details and answer any questions. Please note that this is only a preliminary list and that you should not feel obliged to provide a placement having filled in the form.

All TYs are covered regarding Insurance from the school. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Our school insurance details will be available on the TY Website this week.

Sign Up to Gaisce

What is Gaisce?

  • Gaisce is a direct challenge from the President of Ireland to all young people between 15 and 25 years

  • Gaisce is an opportunity for you to find your passion, get active and make a difference in your community!

Set yourself a challenge in 4 sections

  1. Community Involvement

  2. Personal Skill

  3. Physical Recreation

  4. Adventure Journey

Complete an activity in each section to earn an award

I'll be speaking to each class during the week as to how they can sign up & take part

Overnight TY 31km Hike

Gaisce Adventure Journey

22nd & 23rd September

We're very glad to announce that we will be running our annual TY Hike this year.

  1. Glendalough to Lough Dan Scout Centre, Roundwood (12km)

  2. Overnight Camp-out

  3. Lough Dan Scout Centre, Roundwood to Crone Wood Car Park (19km)

Buses will leave from the school on Wednesday and return Thursday afternoon

There will be a small change relating to sleeping arrangements this year on account of Covid restrictions: to take part in the trip & camp you will need a one or two man tent and you will not be allowed to share a tent.

More information will be sharing next week.

A dinner will be provided in the camp on arrival but you will need to carry the following on the hike:

☐ Tent (1 or 2 man per student) ☐ Rucksack (with bin liner or rain cover) ☐ Sleeping bag - (min. 3 season recommended) ☐ Sleeping mat ☐ Rain gear – jacket and over trousers ☐ Boots or strong shoes (as stones will bruise feet if shoes are too light) ☐ Torch & batteries ☐ Eating utensils - Tupperware container (1000ml approx), bottle, knife, fork, spoon

☐ Complete change of underwear and hiking socks ☐ Long sleeve and short sleeve shirt ☐ Light weight fleece or pullover ☐ Trousers/tracksuit bottoms – not jeans ☐ Hat & Gloves ☐ Insect repellent ☐ Sun cream/screen ☐ Blister plasters ☐ Food (snacks, lunch & breakfast) & Water ☐ Toiletries (including toilet tissue)
