6th - 10th January TY Newsletter

A note to say welcome back and Happy New Year. i trust you all had a pleasant break and are ready to get started into a new term.

A significant change being made this term, involves a more formalised credit system that will be used to help choose which TYs are accepted to take part in the Outdoor Activity Trip in the final week of May. In the past, a very small minority of students let the school down with poor behaviour - the credit system is being put in place to insure that this doesn't happen again and students understand that they are ambassadors for the school if they are lucky enough to take part in the end of year TY trip.

The details of the credit system will be set out to students in the coming weeks and the details will then be shared with parents and guardians.

  • You'll find the following in this week's TY Newsletter:

  • Barista Course with Dublin Barista School (6th, 7th & 9th Jan)

  • Brazil Immersion Trip Samba Band

  • Ray Langan Tuesday Talk (7th Jan)

  • Spiritan Ethos Workshop in Blackrock College (8th Jan)

  • Global Ireland Schools Project 2020 (9th Jan)

Barista Course with Dublin Barista School

(6th, 7th & 9th Jan)

Times and venues will be posted on the TY Office window for all of those who signed up for the barista course this week.

Brazil Immersion Trip Samba Band

Mr Sheridan will be speaking with all of the TYs who are taking part in the Brazil Immersion trip about a new initiative! The STMC Samba Band. Drumming lessons will be taking place for the next few weeks so we can bring a little bit of Brazil to...well...Brazil!

All of those who are taking part in this band will also be performing in the National Concert Hall too.

Ray Langan Tuesday Talk

1:35pm, 7th Jan, Lwr Study

We're approximately half way through TY so this workshop is about putting experiences into context for each TY.

Ray delivers a seminar that helps the boys get some grip on what "purpose" they'd like to achieve for themselves for the remainder of the year ... with an eye on 5th Year.

Spiritan Ethos Workshop in Blackrock College (8th Jan)

8 TYs will be travelling to Blackrock College to take part in the annual Spiritan Ehtos Workshop.

Details to follow.

Global Ireland Schools Project 2020

11am, 9th Jan Lwr Study

I'm glad to announce that STMC were lucky enough to be selected to take part in Global Ireland Schools Project 2020 - a discussion on Ireland’s role in the world, why this role is important, to give a sense of what our missions do, and why Ireland is expanding our global engagement. The intention is to engage students on our place in the world highlighting the importance of our UN and EU membership.

Our Speaker ie Heads of Mission will draw on their experience to date, including why and how they joined the diplomatic corps, the priorities of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, why we are expanding our reach and their work as Head of Mission. Heads of Mission will refer to the

substantive engagement DFAT has with schools already through the Irish Aid development education outreach (material attached) and to invite further engagement from schools with

these programmes.
