Active Schools Week

TY Hike
Nearly there now!
All TYs should have confirmed their tents and groups at this stage. This list is posted on my window. Any amendments needed will be done on Monday.
Please note that we will be providing a roast pig dinner for all when we arrive at Lough Dan but all TYs will need to bring bottled water (2 litres approx - to be refilled in Lough Dan Scout Centre) and food/snacks for Days 1 and 2 of the hike.
There will be an opportunity to swim in the lake under lifeguard supervision so togs and towels can be packed.
The finals of our Tip Rugby Tournament will be played that evening!
Again, any parents who would like to join the group along the hike or simply call up to Lough Dan Scout Centre for an evening visit are welcome.

TY Tip Rugby Tournament Highlights

A brilliantly run day by TYs last Tuesday. Thanks to all the TY Reps for coordinating and our refs, our scorekeepers and our players for such a strongly contested competition!
European Youth Parliament
This year’s Dublin Regional Session of the EYP Ireland will take place from the 18th-20th of October 2019. St Michael's TY hopes to send a delegation of up to eight TY students to attend this weekend-long conference in Holy Child School Killiney.
Over the course of the weekend students will have the opportunity to improve their communication and public speaking skills, engage with pressing issues facing Europe and make new friends. There is no fee for this event as it will be covered by the school.
What is the European Youth Parliament Ireland?
European Youth Parliament (EYP) Ireland has been in existence since 1997 as a non-profit youth organisation which actively engages young people in discussion of Europe and the European Union. Since our foundation, we have organised weekend-long conferences for secondary school students throughout Ireland each year, promoting awareness of European issues among young people. We seek to empower young adults to question the world around them and come up with innovative solutions to European and Global problems, whilst emphasising cooperation and respect. There are a number of opportunities for members to go abroad and represent Ireland and their schools at International sessions and events.
What does an EYP session involve?
This regional session will take place over the weekend of the 18th-20th October starting on Friday after school and ending on Sunday evening. Delegates will be split into committees of 10 -15 people and they will engage in team building which strengthens their group work skills. They will create a resolution together on a particular topical issue, and on Sunday all committees will come together to debate these resolutions at the General Assembly, replicating the European Parliament in Brussels. There are no prerequisites for attending an EYP session, all senior students are welcome! For more information on what an EYP session entails, please see the information booklet attached.
